1. Introduction

As a bi-directional WiFi energy meter, our WiFi Energy Meter is very ideal for use in a solar PV system. By bi-directional function, it is able to measure the energy "to grid" or "from grid" by only one meter. The meter can upload the measurement (Voltage, Current, Active Power, Active Energy, Frequency...) to the cloud. So you can easily monitor the below KPIs of a solar PV system online:

  • energy generated by solar inverter
  • to-grid energy (energy exported to grid)
  • from-grid energy (energy imported from grid)
  • direct self-use energy

We will introduce the wiring diagram of installing WiFi energy meters in solar PV system.

2. Single phase solar PV system

If you want to monitor your single phase solar PV system, you can two options to realize,

  1. Install 2PCS single phase WiFi energy meters (WEM3080) in a solar PV system;
  2. Install 1PCS three phase WiFi energy meters (WEM3080T) in a solar PV system (recommended)

2.1 Install 2PCS WEM3080

As shown in below picture, in a single phase solar PV system, 2PCS WEM3080 can be installed in two locations (Grid Side and Solar Inverter Side) according to your actual requirement and condition:

Note:

If you only want to monitor imported/exported energy on grid side, you can only install 1PCS WEM3080 on grid side.

As shown in below picture, in a single phase solar PV system, you can install 1PCS WEM3080T and clamp the CTs to different location (Grid Side and Solar Inverter Side) according to your actual requirement and condition:

We recommend this option because the data are totally synchronized in one minute uploading interval.

Note:

It is not necessary to clamp a CT to Load Side because the system can calculate the total power consumed by all loads by below formula:

Load Power = Inverter Power- Feedin Power

3. Three phase solar PV system

3.1 Install 2PCS WEM3080T

As shown in below picture, in a three phase solar PV system, you can install 2PCS WEM3080T (three phase WiFi energy meter)

Note:

If you only want to monitor imported/exported energy on grid side, you can only install 1PCS WEM3080T on grid side.

4. Split phase solar PV system

4.1 Install 1PCS WEM3080 + 1 PCS WEM3080T

As shown in below picture, in a three phase solar PV system, you can install 1PCS WEM3080 (single phase WiFi energy meter) and 1PCS WEM3080T (three phase WiFi energy meter).

Note:

If you only want to monitor imported/exported energy on grid side, you can only install 1PCS WEM3080T on grid side. WEM3080T can be applied in single phase system, split phase system and three phase system.
